Works under direct supervision.  Responsible for performing dental procedures as qualified by training and authorized by a clinic dentist.

1.

Assists chair-side with dentist during examination and treatment of patients.

 

 

 

 

2.

Takes x-rays, performs coronal polishing, as well as provide hygiene instructions and fluoride treatments.

 

 

 

 

3.

Monitors patients under local anesthesia.

 

 

 

 

4.

Sterilizes instruments using autoclave and chemical disinfectants, in addition to performing routine maintenance of dental equipment (i.e. cleans and lubricates hand pieces).

 

 

 

 

5.

Maintains housekeeping of dental operatories, inventories dental supplies, and handles requisition for supplies.

 

 

 

 

6.

Properly checkout and complete all of patient’s charts being treated by dental.

 

 

 

 

7.

Assist in front office as needed.

 

 

 

 

8.

Completes all required correspondence.

 

 

 

 

9.

Is familiar with and adheres to the Compliance plan and all related policies. Reports questionable activity to Compliance Officer.   Maintains accountability for complying with all applicable standards, laws, regulations and procedures governing the delivery of healthcare services and associated processes.

 

 

 

 

 

10.

Complies with all AAAHC standards and requirements such as annual TB test, CPR and CEU if applicable.

 

 

 

 

11.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Graduate of a formal training school for dental assistant.  Two years experience in a dental clinic as a dental assistant.

Certifications Required: Nitrous Oxide, Coronal Polishing, X-Ray

Ability to demonstrate age specific competencies associated with dental assistant best practices.

CPR certified.

Basic computer skills.  Familiarity with MS Office.

Strong written and oral communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to multi-task and work independently, demonstrating initiative and accuracy in work results.

 

Working Conditions

The employee is on feet most of day. Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting patients is essential. This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. Personal protective equipment use required.
